[2007-04-14] Landing of Three Lithuanians in the World Charity and Artistic Project ART FOR AID

Even three artworks of the Lithuanian artists were selected by the experts of the London’s Tate Modern Museum, Sotheby's auction and Milan triennial to be displayed in the exhibition of the best artworks of the world. The artworks of thirty-six artists from all round the world were selected out of 200 artworks and will together form the exposition of ART FOR AID project, the funds collected for which will be allocated for charity. The project uniting art and charity has been initiated by the Junior Chamber International (JCI), global federation of young entrepreneurs and leaders; UNICEF organisation and project patron Amsterdam City Mayor. The project is also supported by the Dutch Royal Family.

ART FOR AID exhibition showcases the works of painting, photography and sculpture created by the artists from the USA, Finland, Italy, Israel, Greece and other Northern and Central European countries. Lithuania will be represented in this exhibition by photographers Algis Griškevičius and Monika Bielskytė as well as painter Violeta Juškutė with “Angel’s Wing”, a contemporary art object made of handmade paper “feathers”. The artworks will be sold at Sotheby's auction during the Gala Dinner in Amsterdam on 15 April 2007 and the collected funds will be allocated for the Children Education Programme implemented by UNICEF.

“These events show that art may provide not only spiritual satisfaction but also tangibly contribute to addressing the issues faced by humanity,” – says Donatas Juškus, the Director of Stasys Juškus Gallery in Vilnius that had presented two Lithuanian artists for this event. He claims that all artists participating in the exhibition will be enlisted into Sotheby's auction records, which will further lift the global ratings of the Lithuanian fine arts. “The developing and increasingly active dialogue between the Lithuanian and the global art markets is a very welcome fact. This signifies the global acknowledgement both of the artists we presented and of our gallery. At the same time, it is a remarkable opportunity to represent Lithuania with the help of fine arts and other forms of art,” – maintained Donatas Juškus.
