Antanas Gudaitis was born in Šiauliai City on 29 (16) July 1904. 1924 - his first exhibition of paintings at Šiauliai Teacher Training College. 1926-1928 - studies at Kaunas School of Art. 1929-1933 - studies monumental painting at Paris Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers, attends the private studios of Andre Lhote, Alexandra Exter, also the academies of Colarossi and Julian. 1930 - takes part at the International Exhibition of Technology and Art in Liege, exhibits two frescos on the subject "A Woman with a Child". 1932-1935 - a member of "Ars", a group of Lithuanian artists, participant of their exhibitions (1932, 1934). 1933-1939 - teaches fundamentals of painting at the course of decorators in Kaunas. 1937 - one-man exhibition of drawings in Kaunas. 1938-1940 - a lecturer at the courses of teachers for vocational schools. 1940-1941 - heads the painting studio at the Vilnius School of Art. 1941-1943 - lecturer at Vilnius Academy of Art, Head of the Department of Drawing. 1944-1985 - teaches painting at the State Institute of Art. 1947 - becomes professor, 1961 - is conferred the honorary title of the Emeritus Art Figure. 1964 - the first one-man show. 1965 - one-man exhibitions in Kaunas, Tallinn, 1969 - Moscow, 1974 - Vilnius, Kaunas, 1975 - Riga, 1980 - Vilnius, Kaunas, Lvov, 1984 - Vilnius, Kaunas. "A true disciple of his epoch". This is how Justinas Vienožinskis, a famous painter, subtle connoisseur of art, a teacher and a discriminating critic, described Antanas Gudaitis in 1932.
